Why Microsoft’s October 7 Event Has Nothing to Do With Gold

September 17, 2026

What Big Tech Is Missing About Gold

Big tech headlines are loud. Gold investors need a reason to ignore them.

Gold is trading around $4,307 this morning, up from last week’s dip into the $4,260s, as investors reposition ahead of today’s Federal Reserve decision. The Fed voted Wednesday, September 16, 2026, for a quarter-point hike, lifting the target range for the federal funds rate to 3.75% to 4.00%, and markets are now parsing whether another increase arrives before year-end. That is the story that matters for your portfolio today. What does not matter, at least not directly, is the headline dominating every tech feed: Microsoft’s October 7 Windows and Surface event in San Francisco.

ICE. The Epstein Files. Tariffs.

That’s what the media wants you to focus on.

But behind the scenes, it seems President Trump is quietly preparing something far more shocking – that will leave even his most loyal MAGA patriots stunned.

It’s NOT being debated on cable news or on X.

But it could make you enormously rich in 2026.

The event is genuinely significant in its own lane. Satya Nadella, Windows and Devices EVP Pavan Davuluri, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will share a stage to discuss local AI on Windows PCs, the Nvidia RTX Spark chip, and pricing and availability for the Surface Laptop Ultra. It is Microsoft’s first major Windows-focused event since its May 20, 2024 Copilot+ PC and Surface launch. RTX Spark is a system-on-chip combining a Blackwell GPU and Grace CPU capable of up to one petaflop of AI compute and up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory. The Surface Laptop Ultra was announced in late May 2026 and was described by Microsoft as arriving later this year. October 7 appears likely to provide more detail on timing and pricing.

Other OEMs are moving in the same direction. Dell, Lenovo, and Asus have announced RTX Spark devices of their own, though real benchmarks remain limited ahead of broad availability. Apple’s M-series roadmap is the competitive benchmark Microsoft is chasing in thin-and-light AI compute. Microsoft shares moved only modestly on the event announcement.

What happens when the longest bull market in history finally snaps?

Hint: It won’t be pretty.

Ordinary buy-and-hold investors are in for a beatdown.

But I trade a strange “11-Hour Window” that delivers winning trades even in a bear market. Don’t take my word for it:

For precious metals investors, the relevant question is whether any of this shifts the demand picture for gold, silver, platinum, or palladium. The short answer is: not in any timeframe worth trading. PCs do contain trace quantities of gold in connectors and circuit boards, and palladium in certain components. But the October 7 event addresses software, silicon architecture, and product pricing. It says nothing about production volumes, component sourcing, or raw material procurement that would register in metals markets.

Where Precious Metals Investors Should Look Instead

The more consequential development today is what the Fed’s rate path means for real yields and, by extension, gold. Markets had largely priced in Wednesday’s 25-basis-point hike, but the Fed also signaled more tightening is possible later this year. Geopolitical pressure around the Strait of Hormuz and Houthi activity near Bab el-Mandeb continues to complicate the inflation outlook and keep Treasury yields elevated. A firmer dollar has been the immediate headwind for bullion.

Gold is still meaningfully higher than a year ago. The dip to the $4,260s last week reflected pre-Fed positioning, not a change in the underlying case. Silver has recovered alongside gold and has recently traded in the low-to-mid $60s. Platinum is around $1,846, and palladium around $1,310.

Nuclear Energy’s Comeback Could Spark Before 2026

Global energy demand is surging and one overlooked power source is quietly returning to the spotlight. New policy support and supply constraints are setting the stage for a surprising shift in the energy markets.

The discipline for precious metals investors is knowing which stories to track and which to file away. A major Windows launch reshapes the PC industry. It does not reshape the supply-demand balance in bullion. When Nadella and Huang take the stage October 7, the questions that matter will be about RTX Spark adoption rates, Surface pricing, and whether Microsoft can close the gap with Apple. None of those answers will move the gold price.

Stay focused on the Fed’s next move and the dollar’s trajectory. That is where the precious metals story lives right now.
